Cape: Yellow cape that allows slow fall by pressing and holding the jump button in mid-air.Doesn’t work on the chest containing the Eye of Udjat. Skeleton Key: Unlocks locked doors that normally require a carried metal key.Parachute: When falling far enough to cause damage, the parachute ejects automatically, allowing slow fall.Compass: An arrow appears on screen, pointing to the level’s exit(s).Spike Shoes: Allows you to traverse thorns without damage, ice without slippage, and adds damage to jumping on an enemy’s head.Pitcher’s Mitt: Throw items in a long, linear path, rather than the default arc.Holding the joystick towards the wall grabs, and returning it to center lets go. Climbing Gloves: Grab onto walls on points with no ledge.Spectacles: Enables vision of gems and items in the ground.Paste: Makes bombs stick to surfaces and enemies.Bomb Box: Green box containing a dozen bombs.Probably forgot a few things, but point stand that no areas are actually bad, some might just be slightly better. Temple advantages: Horsing quest (if Volcana route), elixir, sceptre, guaranteed jetpack, guaranteed altar, easier plasma cannon, blood farm Tidepool advantages: Tusk (& Sparrow) quest, Clone gun (99/99 resources or kapalas in multiplayer), decent chance of eggplant Jungle advantages: Lots of bodies for Kali, tons of resources, get to keep udjat, high chance of paste, sister quest Volcana advantages: Guaranteed back item, free crown so no need to rob or farm gold, easier enemies, blood farm I think the best way to play casually is to just change up the route depending on what items you have or need. While most new players go Volcana for vlad's cape since it's a guaranteed back item that doubles enemy blood drops for hp sustain. Speedruns basically always go jungle just for the resources. Originally posted by Mr Compassionate:Anybody mind explaining to a noob why this is the case? As a Spelunky 1 player I always try to reach the Black Market to buy the Hedjet but I only just found out you can just use the Crown instead. I almost never go to jungle, but Volcana, Temple and Tide Pool, I go to all of them pretty often. But once you change your objective, your template will also change. If the objective of your runs is always the same, you'll have the same template for your route in every run. If you're a masochist and want to do a score run, Jungle/Temple is the way to go. If you want to speedrun CO% you probably want jungle for the black market chance for resources and a jetpack. But if you want to speedrun a daily challenge I'd argue Jungle/Tide Pool could be better. If you want to speedrun any%/low%, Volcana/Tide Pool is faster almost every single time. If you want to hope for an eggplant skip you may go temple and scepter all the croc men until one drops a teleporter. If you want true crown you want the guaranteed altar at the City of Gold, but if you want triple crown it will take a while but you may want Tide Pool instead. If you want a higher chance of an eggplant run you want to go Tide Pool. If you want to do something fancy like Scepter to CO you want to go temple. If you want to have the most consistent run possible until you get to CO, you probably want to go Jungle/Tide Pool (but then in CO you have to deal with stuff and it gets harder if you don'th ave the right things). And if you want a jetpack no matter what you can go to Duat. For example, if you get a jetpack you may want to go Jungle/Tide Pool due to having no crush traps and no fire that can destroy your jetpack. And because due to practice I am more consistent at Vlad skip than at any form of Ankh skip.īut that's with the mindset of going to CO every single run with the highest chance of success once you get there. I rarely do the Ankh skip, because I might miss an altar, or a shop in 4-4 (not very likely but still). Otherwise, I steal Tusk's dice, sacrifice them at the next altar (cloning one if necessary) to get climbing gloves and perform Vlad skip. If I get climbing gloves or a jetpack I change it for Volcana/Temple and I perform Vlad skip. Routes are indeed unbalanced, but that's interesting, because no runs are the same and that may make one route better than the other, given that you get good rng.įor example, for the daily challenge, my main route is Volcana/Tide Pool.
